Task 7 - Problem & Solution
In the middle of the twentieth century, a big issue started to work quietly and there was no attention given to it. However, two years ago, governments, scientists and individuals recognized the harm of this issue, so they started to find the solutions. This issue is the Global Warming. Global Warming means the increase of temperature, sea levels and carbon emission levels. In this essay, I am going to discuss some of the causes of the Global Warming and try to find some possible solutions.
Starting with the causes of the Global Warming, the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) mentioned in their website under Global Warming Basics article, that the main cause is the carbon dioxide and other air pollution that is produced from industries, cars, buildings and airplanes and which is collected in the atmosphere. This trap the sun’s heat and increase the temperature levels. Another important cause mentioned by James F. Kasting in his article about the Global Warming “The Carbon Cycle, Climate, And The Long-Term Effects Of Fossil Fuel Burning” is the deforestation. Millions of trees are cut and burned every year which has two side effects. One is the huge carbon emissions of burning trees and the second is that they are burning trees which help us by absorbing millions of carbon emissions from the air.
Turning to the possible solutions, Larry West mentioned in “Top 10 Things You Can Do to Reduce Global Warming” that one of the solutions is to generate electricity from renewable energy like solar, wind and plants instead of using oil and other gases. It would save money and reduce the very high percentage of greenhouse gases. Another solution is to make cars that run cleaner and use less gas. Walking and biking are great forms of exercise which also mean fewer greenhouse gases. Trains produce less global warming pollution than either cars or airplanes so people can use them instead of cars.
In conclusion, we are facing a big issue and everybody is involved. All the countries should combine together and find solutions. Individuals also should share the responsibilities; otherwise unexpected disasters will be seen in this planet.

Task 6 - Cool Cities
- Since the start of the industrial revolution, many countries achieved an obvious successful movement in their economic development. However, there must be some side effects which were brought to us by the economic and industrial revolution such as the grouth of population, CO2, the traffic jams and the temperature.
- To solve these issues, we have to find out a new earth which is impossible.
- We need to reduce the carbon emissions by 50% in order to live on the earth.
- In Japan during the last 30 years GDP (Gross Domestic Product) has gone up 100% percent while energy efficiency has increased 37% percent and oil consumption has decreased 8% percent.
- Buildings and transportation are responsible for 90% of the carbon dioxide that is emitted into the air.
- Cool city is a green city which is built to be environmentally friendly and with no carbon emissions. It is developed by SDCJ, a Japanese company.
- The three types of transportation that will be used in the cool city are:
Monorail/Light rail
Solar water taxis
Hybrid cars
- There are three main zones which are:
Business zone
Culture zone
Residential zone
- Some of the techniques that will reduce heat are:
Tree-planting
Waterways
Rooftop membranes
- The two types of buildings: eco-tower and eco-residences will reduce the CO2 by 50% and 30% respectively.
- Overall, 60% is the expected reduction of the carbon emissions.
To conclude, cool city is one of the solutions. However, it is not enough; the government and individuals must co-operate to prevent the increase of the carbon emissions.

Task 5 - Carbon Footprint
Nowadays, people start realizing what the footprint is, and what effect could be done by the large amount of their footprint. In this essay, I will describe my research into carbon footprints and outline some possible solutions on how to reduce them.
Footprint is the carbon dioxide (CO2) and greenhouse gases that your activities produce, which could affect the climate. It is often measured in pounds or kilograms. I measured my footprint in http://footprint.wwf.org.uk/ and it was 6.38 which the highest in the class. The average figure for CRB was 3.778. I travel about twice a month, which increased my footprint.
In the UAE, the CO2 emitted per person is 32.83 tonnes per year. The government of the UAE took several actions to reduce the carbon dioxide. They try to use nuclear power to low the CO2 which made by electricity. They also support the new green buildings to make them more efficient in their use of recourses. The first zero carbon city in the world which will be build in Abu Dhabi by Masdar. These steps will reduce the greenhouse gases in the UAE.
However, individuals could be part of the solution. Here are some actions could help reducing the carbon dioxide. First, turn off your water heater, because it almost take 20 minutes to heat enough water so why do you keep it switched on 24 hours? Second, switch all the lights before you leave your home.
In conclusion, It is all about us. We have to decide whether we want to reduce the carbon dioxide or not. Actually, it saves our money and our health too.

Summary 3
Part 1: Summary
The writer Will Hutton, talks about how the EU could save the world from the greenhouse gas emissions. Many steps must be done by the EU’s countries, and also there are some problems.
The EU has made a commitment to tackle climate change and energy security. The EU is dedicated to use the renewable energy such as water, air and tidal power to reduce 20% of the carbon dioxide emissions by 2020 from their 1990 level. This commitment is followed by some actions to do. 2010 is the deadline for new power stations to have a carbon capture and storage technology. Car’s carbon emissions also will be reduced starting from the next year. Many problems will occur which are already expected. However, there is no choice; people must do it now because all these problems as scientific evidence are man-made. One of the main goals of the EU is to share the work to achieve something that would not be achieved by one country alone. The UN will meet in Indonesia to discuss how to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in India, China and America. The EU will go ahead with no returns and if any country would like to reduce the emissions, they just have to follow them.
Part 2: Main Idea
The main idea is the initiative of the EU in how to save the world from the greenhouse gas emissions. The EU’s countries also had a commitment to reduce the carbon dioxide emissions and use renewable energy instead.
Part 3: Comment
- I think the article is well-organized because the writer divides the ideas into paragraphs.
- In my point of view, the article talks about an important issue that all countries must share the responsibility for the increased greenhouse gases.
- I would like to know more about the global warming and what personal initiatives could be done by people to stop the greenhouse gas emissions.

Task 4 - An Inconvenient Truth: Part 2
Brandon Fibbs,
The writer talks about Al Gore’s film which is An Inconvenient Truth. He supports the theory about the global warning relying on evidence and pictures provided by Al Gore in the film. He confirms that people are responsible for the climate change or the global warming. Everything is in change such as the sea levels are rising, the ice caps are melting, and the high temperatures in the last few years. All that is made by people and if we do not act, we will face many problems in the future. In the end of the review, he provides advice about how people may stop these changes and how we can return to the 1950’s weather.
Scott Nash,
Scott Nash,
However, there are many negative reviews about Al Gore’s film. One of them was written by Scott Nash. He thinks that Al Gore’s main idea or point is about his presidential candidature, rather than about global warming. He proves his thinking by the jokes that Al Gore made about Bush and other republicans. He says that Al Gore is emotionally manipulative. Scott thinks that some the pictures in the film were taken in the winter a few years ago and some in the summer, more recently.
In conclusion, I do not have enough knowledge and information about global warming to support Al Gore or Scott. However, Al Gore was more convincing than Scott because Gore supported his theory by pictures, charts and facts. Therefore, I would say Gore was right because these changes in temperatures, the rise of the sea levels and the melted ice caps were made by something or some people which Gore confirmed.

Wanted: Natural Residents - Summary
Part 1 - Summary
The writer talked about a small town which is located in Sweden. This city is not only for human, but there are also birds, bats, and insects who live in cozy nesting boxes.
This town was built on reclaimed industrial land and contains several developments which are designed to promote sustainable urban living. Green innovations were a target to the planners by using waste management, renewable energy and sustainable transport. Each developer must choose ten “green features” from a list of 35 features to be an acceptable design. A lot of different species have been recorded as breeding in the town. Some people who live there feel very comfortable about the life there. Birds and salamanders have been seen in their home. The developers are now planning to develop the two next phases. They had good lessons from the first phase which will help them put more features and developments in the next buildings. Location and appearance are important reasons to the people to buy their homes but in this town green lifestyle is one more reason to buy. Toddlers’ playgrounds and some activities which are built on one of the roads which lead to the sea are designed for children between 1 to 5 years old. They will expect and demand to live in green houses.

In conclusion, this town encourages developers to build more projects which are friendly to the environment.
Part 2 – Main Idea
The main idea in the article was about the new project in Sweden which gave the most priority to the green innovations in its design. It concentrated on green lifestyle features and how to develop it. Last thing is why people would live there and what the benefits of living there are.
Part 3 – Comments
· I think the article is well-organized because the writer divided the article to many paragraphs to make it easier to the reader to understand.
· I think the article is very important and encourages people and countries to build green houses and towns. Actually, that is one of the solutions to the Global Warming Issue.
· I would like to learn more about the green features and how we can use them here in the UAE.

An Introduction to Global Warming
One of the biggest problems facing the entire world today is experiencing global warming. Many scientists believe that the earth’s temperature is rising and the icecaps are meeting and oceans rising among other problems. This post, I am going to outline the problems of global warming and discuss possible solutions.
One of the biggest problems caused by global warming is the weather changes. This will increase the world temperature, for example what happened in Ras Al Khaimah’s mountains. Another result of global warming is the sea levels which rose in the last few years. For instance, the tsunami that was affected by the global warming. One last problem is the melting icecaps. This could affect the ice sheet and it could disappear after 100 years because of the global warming.
Turning to the solutions, one solution is to stop factory’s smoke. This will help to reduce the global warming effect. Another way in which we can reduce global warming is to save electricity if we do not need it, such as shutting off lights. Using electricity leads to further greenhouse gases in the air. One last means of lowering the global warming is to plant trees. It will help to reduce the carbon from the air.
In conclusion, we are facing a big issue and everybody is involved. All the countries should combine together and find solutions.

Task1 - Personal Information
I will talk a little about myself. I am married since 2004 and I have one child and his name is Nahyan. I have a big family consisting of six brothers and six sisters. I live with my father in Shahama.
Now I am going to talk about my career and study. In 1999, I finished the ninth grade in Abu Dhabi. My brother was in the United States so his suggestion was to go there and finish my high school and higher degree of bachelor there. I took his suggestion and I finished the tenth and eleventh grade in the United States. Then, for some reasons I came back to the UAE. I started working in Abu Dhabi International Airport under the immigration department. I was studying too at that time in the evening. I finished the high school and joined the HCT to finish the higher degree. Now I am in year two and I am still working in the Amiri Fight.
Now I am going to talk about my hobbies. I like travelling around the world. I have visited many countries such as United States, Britain, France, Germany, Lebanon, Egypt, Syria, Singapore, all the GCC countries and many other places. I also like horse riding, football, swimming and tennis.
Two years ago, I started my own small business. I established two companies which are involved in real estate and the construction business. It is running well but we are suffering a little bit from the global crisis.
One of this blog’s purposes is to write about the global warming. Global Warming is a big issue which all the countries should look at deeply. I will try to understand it and understand the main causes.
